Persistence to failover source

Modified on Mon, 23 Sep at 6:15 PM

This article explains how to use the "Persistence to failover source" feature in Revma when multiple sources are connected to a stream (primary & failover). This feature can be found in a "streaming only" station's Settings>Broadcast tab.

In case the stream's active source is the failover encoder, with the options of this feature you can dictate if and when the active source will be switched to the primary encoder.

This feature does not apply for the failover relay url.

The first option is "Always persistent", which will cause an active failover source to remain active even if the primary source has been connected. That way, this scenario will apply:
1. Both sources (primary & failover) are connected to a stream with primary being the active one.
2. Primary source disconnects
3. Failover source becomes the active one

4. Primary source connects again

5. Failover source remains the active one and does not switch to Primary at any time.

The second option is "Switch to primary after", which allows you to set the time after which the active source will automatically be switched to the primary source. This is given the fact that the failover source is the active one and the primary source has connected.

If this value is set to 0, the primary source will become the active one as soon as it connects. If the value is set more than 0 (x), the primary source will take over that (x) amount of time after it connects.

For example:
1. "Switch to primary after" is set to 20 minutes
2. Primary source disconnects
3. Failover source becomes the active one
4. Primary source connects again
5. Failover source remains the active one for 20 minutes

6. Primary source automatically becomes the active one ("takes over") after these 20 minutes. This is under the assumption that there have been no more disconnections of the primary source during those 20 minutes; if there is a disconnection of the  primary source, the 20 minute "countdown" will start over from the point of its last connection.

After choosing the option that best suits a station's needs, make sure to click on Save in order for any changes to apply (by default, this is set to "Always persistent").

You can view the active and connected source(s) via the Revma UI in the Monitoring page. More information on Monitoring can be found here.
