Navigating through your Revma station

Modified on Tue, 25 Jun at 1:42 PM

This article will guide you through the different sections of your station in Revma.com

TABLE OF CONTENTS

This article goes through all available fields of an account, as accessed by an account Admin.

Dashboard

The dashboard is the landing point of your station. In the middle, there is a map depicting your online listeners and the countries in which they are located. Highlighting a country, will show you how many listeners are active, if any. Clicking on a country with at least one listener, will present a more detailed view.

On the right sidebar there are three sections.

Under Listeners, you are able to view a concurrent listeners graph. You can switch between three different days; click on the drop-down menu and select between: today, yesterday and same day last week. If you are under the station level, the concurrent listeners graph shows the number of concurrent listeners of both that master station as well as the relay stations "under it" (if that master station has relays "under it"); if you are under the relay station level, the concurrent listeners graph shows the number of concurrent listeners restricted to the specific relay station. More information regarding concurrent listeners can be found here.

If you have already broadcasted content with metadata, the last played tracks info will be visible rendering the last five tracks that aired through your station, with the track at the top been got latest one.

Lastly, under Stream URLs you can locate the links that direct to your station’s stream. More information on the Stream Urls will be found in the corresponding section below.

Analytics

A Station admin will have the option to fetch station analytics reports through the Analytics section. These analytics will consist of all the stats “under” that station, which will include the stats regarding any relay stations. You can, however, toggle between the master and any relay stations' stats, using the respective filter tool at the top right.

To fetch a report, you will first need to choose the period of time for which you wish this report to be generated. Under the “period” section, first choose between the time-frame (one of the preset time-frames or a custom one) and click on “get analytics”. The response might take some time, depending on how large the report is.

For a more detailed explanation and navigation through the Analytics section, click here.

Stream URLs

In this pane you will find the Stream URLs and the Relays tab.

Stream URLs

This is where you can locate the links that direct to your station’s stream.

For the HLS stream URL to work, the media format of a stream must be AAC.

Relays

This is where you can create relay stations that rebroadcast your main station and view or delete already existing ones. Upon clicking on Create Relay, you can either set up a simple relay that mirrors the settings of the main station or choose to create a transcoding relay, in which case you can choose to edit the media format and bitrate.

More information on relays, please check here.

Profile

Under Profile you can edit the Station info and configure the Player of your station.

Station info

Here you can edit the Radio station name, upload a Logo and input any general information that applies to your station.

Players

Here is where you can find your station’s Stream name (same as the mount point), as well as two players solutions provided:

  1. API-based player: to get one of these portal based API players in your website, click on the option to “Get the API widget” and follow the instructions (some developing skills will be required). There are three versions of the player: The minimal player which only provides a play button, the minimal player with a mute/unmute option and the full player which displays the artist/track name & station logo as well as the option to adjust the volume.

  2. IFrame-based player: a simpler widget which you can use in your website by copying and pasting the embedded code. You will also be able to configure the player to render the song that is now playing, as well as disable the autoplay functionality of the player.

Session Rules

Under session rules a station admin will be able to view the rules that apply to the specific station.

For a more detailed explanation and navigation through the Session Rules, click here.

Session rules should be created and managed via the account level and not the station level.

Playlist

This feature is only available in Loop channel stations.

The playlist feature allows you to upload a number of tracks to your Loop channel station, that will air whenever at least one listener is connected to the stream and/or another source is not being relayed.

Please note that in case no listeners are connected to your stream, the station remains idle, waiting for a connection.

The first step is to upload content. After clicking on the “Upload Audio” option, you can either drag & drop, browse from your computer or Add a Media URL that points to a static mp3 file (stream URLs are not supported).

Every time you make a change (i.e. enable “shuffle playlist”, change the order of the songs etc.) you will see the option to Save or Save and Restart Playlist. Do so before leaving the page, as any unsaved changes will be removed. When a restart or a save is successful, you will see a message at the top of the page indicating so.

The playlist will become active and start playing when at least one listener accesses the stream. The track that is currently playing is indicated by a green “mark” next to it. If there are no listeners, the playlist will stop at that exact point and, if needed to start again, it will pickup from the same point. While a Loop channel station is idle (because no listeners are active), the point the playlist stopped will be indicated by an amber coloured “mark”.

Settings

There are three tabs available within Settings

1. Broadcast

2. Advanced

3. People

Broadcast

Under Broadcast, the first table is the Master link. This is where you will find the broadcasting and server credentials that will allow you to stream via your station using any Icecast V2 compatible encoder. The “Server Address” is to be used in the primary source and the “Failover Server Address” in the optional secondary source.

If two sources are being used on a station (Primary & Secondary/Failover) the audio settings (audio format, bitrate, samplerate etc.) need to be the exact same for both.

This is also where the failover relay url functionality is located, where a stream url can be added, which will take over in case any other source (primary and/or failover) is disconnected. The failover relay url will also need to have the exact same audio settings as the other sources. For example, if an encoder is connected a station with audio format AAC, bitrate 128 kbps and sample rate 44100, the same settings will need to apply for the audio settings of the stream used as failover relay url.

The Master link credentials are only available in Streaming only stations.

In case the stream's active source is the failover encoder, with the options present under "Persistence to failover source" you can dictate if and when the active source will be switched to the primary encoder. This functionality is only available in "streaming only" stations. More information on this feature can be found here.

Following is the Relay link. Enabling this will allow you to choose a streaming URL from another source to broadcast via your station without the use of any other software.

Please note that in case a relay is enabled or you are navigating in a relay station, the Master link credentials will be hidden and not functional.

Make sure the Relay URL used is in HTTP and not HTTPS

Enabling Stream Alert, will allow any email addresses entered in the field to be notified with alerts for a series of connection activities. For a description of these alerts, have a look here. As described in the corresponding field of the user interface, only users signed-up in Revma (in any level) will receive these alerts.

Advanced

Under the advanced tab, you are able to check the status of your station’s server, library and streaming.

You are also able to restart or shutdown the station. Restarting will cause a momentary silence on the stream, whereas shutdown will cause the station to remain off air.

Due to the Fact that Loop channel Stations have an “auto-start” and “auto-shutdown” function enhanced, there is no Shut Down option in Settings>Advanced under these stations.

When performing a restart or shutdown, all active connections will be dropped.

If the Skip service is activated for the specific station that is being restarted , these actions will deactivate it.

Following, the Stream Configuration settings allow you to tailor the timings of your stream in various aspects. More information on the specifics can be found here.

In this section one can also find the option to have the stream serve under the HTTPS protocol as well as to enable fragmented MP4 delivery method, which will work only if the stream has AAC encoding. Click on the “Update settings” option for any changes made to be saved.

There are some players (i.e. VLC) that will not display metadata with the HTTPS stream url of a stream. This occurs because metadata are delivered in-band when the players are requesting it via a header “Icy-MetaData:1”. These players don't include that header when requesting an HTTPS string, but include it when requesting for an HTTP stream.

The Output media format and the Output bit rate options, are only available in Loop channel and Transcoding Relay stations. For more information on the differences between the station types, have a look here.

Using the “Move under Master Station” option, an account or station admin can switch a station's type to “relay” and choose which station it will operate "under".

This option is only available in Streaming only station that contain no relay "under" them.

In Delete Station is where the station can be permanently deleted. Before you proceed in deleting a station, the service will request the re-typing of the station’s name.

Only an owner of the station (account admin) can perform this action.

People

In the people section an Admin can add station users and allocate roles to them (Admins, Tech Admins, Analytics Viewers).

You can invite users by sending an invitation to their emails via the “Add People” option at the top left (after choosing what role to invite them as). Any user that receives this invitation email will be able to create his/her own credentials and from that point on be able to manage the account according to their role's permissions. Type the email address, click on it and press “Send invitations”. Until the invitee accepts, the invitation will be pending and an envelope symbol will appear next to the invitee’s email. You can delete an account admin or invitee by clicking on the bin symbol on the right side of each user.

More information on the Revma user roles can be found here.

Applications

Under Applications you can set your station to send metadata information to TuneIn and Aiir.

TuneIn

You can add your TuneIn account information (Partner ID, Partner key, Station ID) in order to send metadata information to TuneIn real-time. The account information is provided from TuneIn.

Aiir

You can add your Aiir account information (Station ID, password) in order to send metadata information to Aiir real-time. The account information is provided from Aiir.

Events

In the revma Events page, one can view the logs that take place in regards to specific actions/events for a station.

You can find more detailed information on Revma events here.
